DerbyWheel calendar update pushes launch back to 2025

Global Keirin‘s website monitoring bot delivered the goods today, spotting a tiny but significant update to the DerbyWheel website.

The Calendar page now states that regular-season racing will happen every two weeks starting ‘from the 1st half of 2025’. That’s a change from the now practically impossible second half of 2024. The same date has been added to the ‘race format‘ page.

Racing will move to a weekly schedule ‘from the 2nd half of 2025’.

But as yet, there is no update as regards the proposed test event: it is still listed as taking place at Newport velodrome, on a date ‘T B C’ (to be confirmed). And there has been no News announcement relating to the update: the last News article was mid-April, 164 days ago.

On one level, it’s a disappointing development, confirming that things definitely are not happening any time soon. But we’re grateful that it shows the project remains alive… and that they haven’t lost the password for the website.

‘The first half of 2025’ could mean anything between now and 30 June 2025. That buys the organisers a lot of time – at the expense of the prospective riders, who are being asked once again to show trust and patience.
