Trinidad & Tobago’s Nicholas Paul was the highest-profile rider to depart at the quarter final stage of the men’s keirin, at the Track World Championships. The former flying 200 world record holder placed last in the first quarter final, won by Japan’s Shinji Nakano with the fastest final 200 of the day so far.

Nakano’s countryman Kaiya Ota was another surprise exit, placing fifth in the third quarter final, after winning his first round heat earlier in the day. Kento Yamasaki made it safely through in the second race, won by Harrie Lavreysen.

All three quarter finals were won by first-round winners – Nakano, Lavreysen, and Mikhail Yakovlev respectively – whilst Chinese Taipei’s Kang and Hong Kong’s To reach the evening’s semi final stage, again grabbing the final spots in their respective races. To will ride under a warning from the commissaires for not holding his line during the final sprint.

The semi-final draw puts both remaining Japanese riders in the first race, and both the Dutch riders in the second. The first three each time will go on to contest the medals, 4th to 6th place will race for 7th to 12th.
