Next week is Japan’s big end-of-year Keirin Grand Prix Series, held this year at Shiuzuoka. Saturday 28th December is the Young Grand Prix, featuring male riders who made their debut less than three years ago. Sunday 29th is the Girls Grand Prix for women. Then on Monday 30th, it’s the big one, the men’s Grand Prix.
The winner of the men’s race will receive 133 million yen, or US$ 865,000. For context, that’s roughly the same as the second-ranked man earned in total prize money so far in 2024. It’s also more than 16x the prize awaiting the winner of the women’s race.
Below we present the prize money on offer for the meeting’s three big races, sourced from keirin.jp (men, women, young). Conversion based on US$ 1 = 153.663 JPY; dollar amounts have been rounded for legibility.
* Reports indicate that the take-home totals for the winners will be higher than shown here. Tokyo Sports says the men’s Grand Prix winner will receive 140 million yen (US$ 893,350) including supplementary prizes; the top woman will get 14.3 million yen (US$ 91,250) including supplementary prizes; and the Young Grand Prix winner stands to collect 6.8 million yen (US$ 43,400) including supplementary prizes.
