Whilst keirin racers wait patiently for fresh news from DerbyWheel, one intended
participant has filled her time by claiming a new world record.

Two-time Canadian keirin champion
[Lizanne Wilmot](https://www.instagram.com/bacon_bitzz/?hl=en), now living in
Australia, claimed the
[women’s Guinness World Record](https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/769887-fastest-mile-on-a-penny-farthing-bicycle-female)
for 1 kilometre on a ‘penny farthing’ bicycle from a flying start, during a
multisport carnival at Devenport in northern Tasmania.

Chasing a target of 2:22.32 seconds, set in London in October 2024, she recorded
an official time of 1:52.75 – beating the previous record by almost 30 seconds.

‘It started with a one, and that’s all I wanted,’ she told the Tasmanian crowd.
‘The back straight was a tailwind, that was fantastic. It was coming through
turn four, where it was just a slap in the face.’

[Lizanne spoke to DerbyWheel last year](https://globalkeirin.com/2024/03/former-canadian-champion-lizanne-refuses-to-retire/)
about her hopes for the new competition.
