20 June 2025

Global Keirin’s website monitor has picked up another quiet update to the
DerbyWheel website, once again delaying the launch of the proposed world keirin
series.

Edits to the derbywheel.com
[calendar page](https://www.derbywheel.com/derbywheel-race-schedule) in the last
24 hours now propose a date of ‘2nd half of 2025 (TBC)’ for an exhibition race,
still taking place at the Newport velodrome in Wales.

Regular racing every 2 weeks is now proposed to start from Jan(uary) 2026, then
every week from July 2026.

In practical terms, it really only means the last communicated schedule has been
pushed back by 6 months.

But it could be worth noting that the start of regular competition has been
given a specific month, rather than a vague ‘some time in the first half of
2026’ – and the _first_ month of 2026, at that.

_Updated calendar, 20 June 2025_

Of course we knew it was coming. But we give due credit to the DerbyWheel
organisation, for updating the website as their most recently communicated
deadline loomed. Even though multiple target dates have now been missed, they
have reliably moved the dates before they hit them. Proof of life, if nothing
else.

There has been no news announcement explaining the decision; and we have seen no
activity on social media.
