Harrie Lavreysen and Shinji Nakano were on great form in the early rounds, but both failed to make the final of the men’s keirin at the Track World Championships in Ballerup this evening. Israel’s Mikhail Yakovlev goes into the final with three wins from three rides today, having pipped Hoogland at the line.

Nakano, drawn sixth, moves early but only makes it halfway up the line, getting obstructed as Rudyk moves up the track to pass To and Shah Firdaus. Quintero is happy to sit on the Polish rider’s wheel, and Nakano is forced high. Quintero moves forwards, with Yamasaki on his wheel. The pair pass Shah Firdaus, with Nakano sent above the blue line, and out of contention.

Yakovlev leads into the final lap, with Lavreysen and Hoogland hot on his heels. But Ledingham-Horn moves in to claim the racing line, and refuses to let Lavreysen slot in ahead of him. The Dutch favourite is forced wide, losing speed in the banking, and allowing the British rider to hold the black line to the finish. A sensational result! Lavreysen will not contest the medal race.
