Canada’s Lauriane Genest claimed her second Panamerican keirin championship, and her second individual gold in Asunción, with a decisive victory in Sunday’s final.
She made her move early, with only Yuli Verdugo able to follow, and the pair were several lengths clear as they entered the last lap.
With only the home straight to go, Verdugo moved up the track looking to pass, but Genest still had just enough strength to hold on for the win.
Stefany Cuadrado managed to close the gap to the two leaders in the final few metres, but could only come away with bronze. Juliana Gaviria, elder sister of Fernando, was fourth.

Genest now has two Panamerican keirin golds, having won in Cochabamba, Bolivia in 2019 – as well as three silvers in 2018, 2022 and 2023.
She also comes away from Asunción with the individual sprint title, qualifying fastest and beating Cuadrado in Friday’s final in two rides.
