Team England has confirmed that Matthew Richardson has been withdrawn from the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, starting on Friday afternoon, following today’s crash in Tachikawa.

The statement says only: ‘Unfortunately, due to an injury sustained in international racing earlier this week, Matt Richardson will no longer be able to compete for Team England at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. We wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back on the track soon.’

But it can realistically only be as a result of his fall today in the final of the latest Keirin World Series event, when Kento Suzuki 1 swerved directly into the British rider 5, causing him to fall hard.

We have found no official report about Richardson’s condition following the crash.

Richardson was already facing a challenging journey back from Tokyo, with racing due to begin for him on Friday afternoon – followed by a return flight, to compete again in Japan next weekend.

His place is taken by Harry Radford.
