It’s all-change at the top of the UCI’s weekly ranking of the world’s top male and female sprinters, following the world championships in Shanghai last week.
Harrie Lavreysen moves up one place to first, having retained both his sprint and keirin titles, and the maximum points which come with them.
Nicholas Paul, who had topped the rankings since April, had a disappointing championships. He lost in the bronze medal ride-off for sprint, as he did in Santiago last year; but his failure to get through keirin first-round repechages, having won the minor final in Santiago, meant his rolling annual points total would decrease.
The Chinese pair of Zhiwei Li and Han Xie both climb into the top ten, as do Azizulhasni Awang and Dominik Topinka: none of them competed in Santiago last year, so those are new points added to their annual totals.
Matthew Richardson, removed from the championships by British Cycling for disciplinary reasons, and Kevin Quintero both drop out of the top 10 after failing to defend the points they won last year.

In the women’s rankings, Yuan Liying moves up four places to the top spot, winning the sprint in Shanghai, but only placing 12th in keirin following relegation in the minor final. Lea Friedrich holds on to second place, with new keirin champion Alina Lysenko moving up 3 places to third, ahead of Emma Finucane.
Previous number one Stefany Cuadrado drops to fifth: she was ranked 19th in sprint and 27th in keirin, well down on her performance at Santiago. Mina Sato slips to 7th, returning from Shanghai with bronze in sprint and 8th overall in keirin, having won gold and silver last year.
Ellesse Andrews moves up in this week’s rankings despite posting worse results than last year: Alessia McCaig, Lauriane Genest and Miriam Vece all fared worse than the Kiwi, and fall further. Hetty van de Wouw failed to defend her world sprint title, and the points which come with it: she drops to 27th.
