Malaysia’s Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri won the women’s keirin final in front of home fans at the 2025 Asian Track Championships, to retain the title she won in India a year ago.
Building on her bronze medal in the sprint, she timed her last-lap attack perfectly to catch China’s Yufang Guo. Japan’s Mina Sato, wearing the rainbow stripes of world champion, never imposed herself on the race, and finished last.
Japan’s Haruka Nakazawa was first to attack from the middle of the line, drawing an immediate reaction from Guo in second, who took the front with two laps remaining. Izzah Izzati bumped shoulders with Nakazawa as they passed Korea’s Haeun Kim in pursuit of the Chinese leader, with world champion Sato blocked behind a wall three riders deep.
Guo had a four-length lead at the bell, but Izzah Izzati was closing, and the Malaysian crowd could sense the victory was on. She exited the final bend ahead of Guo, and crossed the line ahead of a fast-finishing Kim.
