Ellesse Andrews again won three races out of three in the latest round of the Keirin World Series at Yokkaichi, with Mathilde Gros claiming another second spot overall.

Gros 5 moved to the front of Wednesday’s women’s final as they crossed the line with a lap to go, and Andrews 2 happy to slot in just behind. Out of corner two, the arrival of Yamahara Sakura 1 on the scene sparked the leading pair into life, and out of the saddle.

Andrews came over the top of Gros, and steadily eased away. Sakura, currently ranked no6 in the Japanese prize money list, was unable to hold the Kiwi’s wheel; she kept up the chase for second place, but was never quite able to draw alongside the French guest.

Andrews has won 15 of her 16 starts in this year’s Keirin World Series: her final participation in the series is next week at Gifu – against the only woman to have beaten her so far, Hetty van de Wouw.

In the men’s competition, Joe Truman was the only foreign guest, in the absence of Matthew Richardson. He made the main final with a win on day one, and a narrow loss on day two – attacking with a full lap left, but getting pipped at the end.

In the final lap of Wednesday evening’s final, Truman moved from fourth to first down the back straight, with only Yuta Hidaka able to stay with him. Hidaka came out of the Brit’s slipstream as they entered the home straight, and had enough speed to pass him for a win by three-quarters of a length.

Like Andrews, Truman goes to Gifu next week for the last Keirin World Series event in his 2026 diary. He will be joined by Harrie Lavreysen, who remains unbeaten on the tracks of Japanese pro keirin.
